Targets and Plans
Using an environmental management indicator to monitor GHG emissions from ships and set reduction targets
NYK has been making efforts to address climate change by reducing GHG emissions from the company's ships. To achieve this goal, the company has introduced an environmental-management indicator to establish and manage reduction targets for vessel GHG emissions.
Our indicator, which is based on IMO*1 guidelines, determines GHG emissions per unit of vessel-transport work.

- *1IMO
International Maritime Organization
A UN specialist organization to promote intergovernmental cooperation and formulate treaties and protocols covering technical and legal questions in marine transport and shipping
Our achievement of GHG reduction results and latest goals are as follows.

- *2On September 30, 2021, NYK announced Target of Net-Zero Emissions by 2050 for Oceangoing Businesses.
Please refer the below roadmap for GHG reduction and press release

- *3SBT (Science Based Targets)
Science-based GHG reduction targets in line with Paris Agreement goals.
The progress of the current goal is as follows.

- *CO2 emissions per ton-kilometer (base year fiscal 2015)
- *Fiscal 2050 target changed to net zero emission after October 2021
- *The emission data for fiscal 2021 was recalculated after a partial review of the scope. The figures were revised after recalculating the relevant environmental management indicators based on updated figures certified by a third party.
