External Evaluations

We were placed on the CDP's*1 annual climate change A List for third consecutive year, thus recognizing the company as one of the world leading businesses at the forefront of tackling climate change. Of the approximately 10,000 companies worldwide that were assessed, 283 companies were selected for the A-list, out of which 74 are Japanese companies and 2 are shipping companies, including NYK. We believe that our selection as an A-list company, the highest rating, is a comprehensive recognition of our achievements as a global leader in reducing GHG emissions and the series of initiatives to mitigate the risks of climate change. Since February 2022, we have been included by CDP in its Supplier Engagement Leader for the company's initiatives to reduce GHG emissions and tackle climate-change risks.

In December 2022, we were selected as a constituent of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index *2, a global ESG index, for the 20th consecutive year.

In August 2022, we have been selected for the FTSE4 Good Index Series *3, which is one of the world's representative ESG (environmental, social, governance) investment indicators, for the 20th consecutive year. We have also been selected for the sixth consecutive year in the “FTSE Blossom Japan Index” *4, and the FTSE Blossom Japan Sector Relative Index *5 for a second consecutive year. The FTSE Blossom Japan Index is an ESG investment index used by the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF).

  1. *1CDP
CDP is a global non-profit that runs the world's environmental disclosure system for companies, cities, states, and regions. Founded in 2000 and working with more than 680 investors with over $130 trillion in assets, CDP pioneered using capital markets and corporate procurement to motivate companies to disclose their environmental impacts, and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources, and protect forests. Nearly 20,000 organizations around the world disclosed data through CDP in 2022, including more than 18,700 companies worth half of global market capitalization, and over 1,100 cities, states, and regions. Fully TCFD aligned, CDP holds the largest environmental database in the world, and CDP scores are widely used to drive investment and procurement decisions towards a zero carbon, sustainable, and resilient economy.
The CDP score is widely used around the world as a leading indicator in making sustainable investment and procurement decisions. Responding companies are allocated a score from A to D- depending on the comprehensiveness of their disclosure. Those that don't disclose or provided insufficient information are marked with an F.

The results of the annual DJSI review are announced jointly by S&P Dow Jones Indices LLC, the world's largest global resource for index-based concepts, data, and research, and RobecoSAM, a Switzerland-based company that conducts assessments of corporate sustainability.

Additionally, the index is widely used for sustainable investments and other financial instruments.
  5. *5FTSE Blossom Japan Sector Relative Index
Newly adopted in 2022, the index is designed to be sector-neutral, reflecting the performance of Japanese companies having relatively superior ESG responses in each sector.
