We were placed on the CDP's*1 annual climate change A List for second consecutive year, thus recognizing the company as one of the world leading businesses at the forefront of tackling climate change. Since, within the approximately 12,000 companies evaluated, 201 companies in the world (55 companies in Japan) and, espesially in the shipping sector, only 2 japanese companies have been recognized as the highest rated A list, the recognition of us acknowledges our track record of GHG emission reductions, our efforts to mitigate climate change risks, and the transparency of our information disclosures.Furthermore, in February 2021, we were included by CDP in its Supplier Engagement Leaderboard for the company's initiatives to reduce GHG emissions and tackle climate-change risks.

In November 2021, we were selected as a constituent of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index *2, a global ESG index, for the 19th consecutive year.

In August 2021, we have been selected for the FTSE4 Good Index Series *3, which is one of the world's representative ESG (environmental, social, governance) investment indicators, for the 19th consecutive year. We have also been selected for the fifth consecutive year in the “FTSE Blossom Japan Index” *4, which is a newly set index for Japanese companies that excel in ESG compliance.

  1. *1CDP
    CDP is a global non-profit that runs the world's environmental disclosure system for companies, cities, states, and regions. Founded in 2000 and working with more than 590 investors with over $110 trillion in assets, CDP pioneered using capital markets and corporate procurement to motivate companies to disclose their environmental impacts, and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources, and protect forests. Over 14,000 organizations around the world disclosed data through CDP in 2021, including more than 13,000 companies worth over 64% of global market capitalization, and over 1,100 cities, states, and regions. Fully TCFD aligned, CDP holds the largest environmental database in the world, and CDP scores are widely used to drive investment and procurement decisions towards a zero carbon, sustainable, and resilient economy.
    The CDP score is widely used around the world as a leading indicator in making sustainable investment and procurement decisions. Responding companies are allocated a score from A to D- depending on the comprehensiveness of their disclosure. Those that don't disclose or provided insufficient information are marked with an F.
  2. *2Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI)
    The results of the annual DJSI review are announced jointly by S&P Dow Jones Indices LLC, the world's largest global resource for index-based concepts, data, and research, and RobecoSAM, a Switzerland-based company that conducts assessments of corporate sustainability.
  3. *3FTSE4Good Index Series
    The index consists of companies that meet global standards in terms of ESG developed by FTSE Russell, a global index provider that provides benchmarking, analytics, and data for investors worldwide.
  4. *4FTSE Blossom Japan Index
    An index created by FTSE Russell to measure the performance of Japanese companies having excellent responses to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues. In 2017, Japan's Government Pension Investment Fund, one of the world's largest pension funds, selected the FTSE Blossom Japan Index as one of the benchmarks for its ESG investment strategy. Additionally, the index is widely used for sustainable investments and other financial instruments.

NYK Recognized for Achieving Gold Tier in U.S. West Coast Vessel Speed Reduction Incentive Program

NYK has been recognized for the company's participation in the Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies vessel speed reduction (VSR) incentive program along the West Coast of North America conducted by the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation. NYK achieved the gold tier for a third consecutive year and received an incentive of US$10,000 for the company's fleet traveling at 10 knots or less for at least 50% of the VSR zones.
