NYK Showcases Nature Positive Initiatives at International Summit
NYK participated as a platinum partner in Global Nature Positive Summit 2026 (GNPS2026), held in Kumamoto, Japan, from July 14 to 15. NYK took part in both a panel discussion and a breakout session, sharing its perspectives and initiatives toward realizing nature positive* through an exhibition booth at “NATURE TECH!”
GNPS2026 is an international conference that promotes global dialogue and collaboration toward achieving nature positive outcomes. 2,725 participants from Japan and abroad attended this second edition of the summit, representing businesses, governments, local authorities, international organizations, NGOs, and academia.
At the panel discussion titled “Nature Positive in the Ocean,” Yuko Tsutsui, NYK managing executive officer and chief executive of Sustainability & Transformation Headquarters, joined discussions on balancing marine ecosystem conservation with economic activities. She introduced NYK’s vision of contributing to the conservation and sustainable use of marine environments through scientific understanding of nature, participation in international rule-making, and on-the-ground actions undertaken in collaboration with local communities.
In addition, Yoshiyuki Fujiwara, head of NYK’s Sustainability Planning Team, explained the importance of advancing decarbonization by combining multiple next-generation fuel options, including biofuels and ammonia, at the breakout session focused on biofuels use amid tightening regulations.

At the “NATURE TECH!” exhibition, NYK hosted a booth under the theme “Giving Back to the Ocean.” The booth highlighted initiatives aimed at conserving marine ecosystems, including marine plastic distribution surveys, as well as environmental DNA (eDNA) surveys** conducted through collaborative projects with academic institutions using NYK Group operated vessels. Through this event, which attracted not only corporate participants but also many local elementary school students, NYK communicated the importance of marine environmental conservation to a broad audience.
