On December 11, International Car Operators N.V. (ICO)* and NYK Bulkship (Atlantic) N.V. (NBAtlantic), both NYK Group companies, welcomed 34 fifth-grade students and their teachers from the Japanese School of Brussels to Zeebrugge port for an educational field trip. The group toured a finished-vehicle logistics terminal owned and operated by ICO.

During the visit, a captain from NBAtlantic explained the maritime industry, the work of a sailor, and the operation of car carriers through an interactive quiz. ICO representatives introduced the role of the finished-vehicle logistics terminal and highlighted the environmental initiatives implemented at the site. The students then enjoyed a guided bus tour of the terminal, where they observed a car carrier berthed at the quay alongside rows of vehicles awaiting shipment. Their curiosity was evident, as they asked questions like, “Where is that ship headed next?” and “Which factory built these cars?” It was evident that a keen interest in shipping and port operations had taken root.

This marks the second consecutive year that the NYK Group has supported this school’s field trip to the port. We will continue to showcase the appeal of the shipping industry and vessels to children of the next generation, helping them deepen their familiarity with ships and ports.
