In July, the NYK Maritime Museum and the museum ship NYK Hikawa Maru became the first maritime museum and museum ship in Japan to join the International Congress of Maritime Museums (ICMM).*

ICMM is the world's largest network of maritime museums, with a total of 241 members (including 135 maritime museums, and others being affiliate group members and associate individual members) worldwide, participating to promote knowledge-sharing and communication.

In September, representatives from the NYK Maritime Museum — Daisuke Sano, General manager of NYK’s Maritime Museum Group, and Danpei Mori, manager of the Maritime Museum Team — participated in the 2025 Forum for Asia-Pacific Maritime Culture, which was jointly hosted by ICMM and the Hong Kong Maritime Museum. During the forum, they networked with key figures in the maritime community, including Kristen Greenaway, president of ICMM and director of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum.

Moving forward, NYK will leverage ICMM's international network to enhance exhibition planning ahead of its renewal, further improve the quality of NYK Hikawa Maru's services, and actively promote the appeal of the sea and maritime industry both domestically and internationally.
