NYK Maritime Museum Joins International Council of Museums
In October, the NYK Maritime Museum became the first maritime museum in Japan to join the International Council of Museums (ICOM).
Founded in 1946, ICOM is an international non-governmental organization dedicated to the development and promotion of museums. It serves as a global community where museum professionals from around the world exchange ideas on ethical standards and innovative practices. As of 2025, approximately 4,000 facilities across 139 countries and regions, along with over 56,000 experts, are participating.
By becoming a member of ICOM, the NYK Maritime Museum has secured a platform for sharing information and communicating with the international museum community. Moving forward, the museum aims to collaborate with ICOM-led initiatives, foster cooperative relationships with domestic and international museums, share knowledge, and promote maritime culture.
