NYK Participates in International Conference on Business and Human Rights

Exchanges views with experts on initiatives to respect human rights

On October 23 and 24, NYK participated in the "Dialogue on Business and Human Rights" and the "2025 International Conference on Business and Human Rights in Tokyo" organized by the non-profit organization Caux Round Table Japan* (CRT Japan). At both events, we actively highlighted the NYK Group's initiatives for respecting human rights and engaged in lively discussions with participants.

At the dialogue on October 23, NYK Managing Executive Officer Yuko Tsutsui and others presented the NYK Group’s initiatives to uphold human rights. In discussions with business and human rights experts** — including members of the World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA) — Tsutsui covered topics such as NYK’s medium-term action plan, governance structure, and approaches to expanding these initiatives across group companies.

During the international conference on October 24, Tsutsui returned as a presenter. She introduced the NYK Group’s efforts and progress in respecting human rights by outlining specific processes for human rights due diligence, the monitoring framework, and grievance mechanisms.

The annual conference serves as a forum for companies to examine effective approaches to implementing the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UN Guiding Principles) and to identify practical solutions. This year’s event featured panel discussions with participants from international organizations and initiatives such as the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), as well as presentations highlighting initiatives by Japanese companies.

The NYK Group has established its Human Rights Policy based on the UN Guiding Principles and is committed to advancing a respect for human rights through expert dialogue, information sharing, and the active exchange of views at international conferences.
