NYK Group Publishes 2024 GHG Emission Data
Expanding the range and categories of Scope 3 data collection
NYK has recently published the greenhouse gas (GHG) emission data for the NYK Group for fiscal year 2024, encompassing major domestic and international consolidated subsidiaries.
In the past, the NYK Group collected data on Scope 1 and 2 emissions, as well as some Scope 3 emissions,* in accordance with the international calculation and disclosure standards established by the GHG Protocol. The Scope 3 data came primarily from NYK and select NYK Group companies. However, starting in fiscal year 2024, we have expanded the extent of our collection to include all major domestic and international consolidated subsidiaries, as well as significant equity method affiliates. Additionally, our data collection, which was previously limited to a few Scope 3 categories, has been expanded to cover all 15 categories. Consequently, we are now collecting and publishing comprehensive data on Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions from all major consolidated subsidiaries domestically and internationally.**
The calculation and disclosure of Scope 3 emissions for fiscal year 2024 have been advanced by one year from the timeline provided in the NYK Group Decarbonization Story
, which outlines the NYK Group’s decarbonization initiatives. This early assessment aims to provide a more comprehensive understanding of our overall GHG emissions. As we continue our efforts to achieve our net-zero target by 2050, we will further enhance the aggregation of Scope 3 data, refine our data accuracy, and advance our initiatives for emission reductions.
Since fiscal year 2011, NYK has consistently received third-party verification of its emissions data, and we have obtained certification confirming the accuracy of our calculations for fiscal year 2024.
NYK remains committed to ongoing aggregation and analysis to enhance our efforts toward more effective GHG emission reductions.
* Indirect GHG emissions associated with an entire corporate supply chain, including emissions that occur across the supply chain and outside the organization's direct control, such as raw-material sourcing, product transport, product use, and disposal.
** Based on a survey conducted in collaboration with NTT Data, we have confirmed that the NYK Group has no applicable GHG emissions in Scope 3 categories 8, 10, 12, and 14.
