NYK’s Yu no Mori Reforestation Project Celebrates First Anniversary
Cultivating a rich forest full of biodiversity to give back to the ocean
On May 16, NYK held a commemorative ceremony in Gotemba City, Shizuoka Prefecture, marking the first anniversary of the launch of the company’s "Yu no Mori" forest regeneration project. This initiative aims to preserve the region’s rich natural environment through forest maintenance. Approximately 30 guests attended the ceremony, including Gotemba Mayor Masami Katsumata and NYK Chairman and Director Hitoshi Nagasawa.
During the ceremony, Mayor Katsumata and Chairman Nagasawa jointly planted a tree in celebration of the milestone. They also toured the site, to observe the naturally regenerating vegetation and the restored natural environment, made possible by improved soil conditions and increased sunlight resulting from ongoing maintenance activities.

Yu no Mori is a project born out of the desire to give back to the ocean by beautifying mountains through forestry and contributing to marine environmental conservation, based on the belief that “rich forests nurture rich oceans.” As a corporate group with business activities centered around the sea, the NYK Group aims to create a sustainable future by fostering a harmonious relationship between land, sea, and people. In collaboration with Gotemba city, employees from the NYK group are participating in volunteer activities aimed at forest maintenance and conservation.
NYK remains dedicated to advancing the Yu no Mori project, and NYK Group employees will continue to collaborate with the local community to develop a diverse and resilient forest ecosystem.
