Organizational Changes at NYK Head Office

Effective April 1, 2023, the below organizational changes will occur at the Tokyo head office of NYK.

New Headquarters and Name Changes

Established: ESG Strategy Headquarters

As ESG management shifts to being concretely implemented from 2023, the year in which NYK’s new medium-term management plan begins, the relevant departments will be integrated and a new ESG Strategy Headquarters will be established to further strengthen ESG management.

Name Change: Automotive Business Headquarters

The current Automotive Transportation Headquarters will be renamed as the Automotive Business Headquarters in order to reflect additional value as the business is operated in a wider range of areas related to the automotive business, integrating marine and land-based businesses, rather than remaining in only the business of automotive transport.

New Groups, Dissolved Groups, and Name Changes

Established: Secretary and External Affairs Group; Dissolved: Secretary Group and Government and Industrial Affairs Group

To support top management more effectively, the Secretary Group and Government and Industrial Affairs Group will merge into the new Secretary and External Affairs Group. The group will strengthen operational and coordination capabilities, etc., based on full consideration of the intentions of the top management.

Name Change: Automotive Business Management Group

Car Carrier Group No. 2 will become the Automotive Business Management Group in order to consolidate and centralize the corporate functions within the headquarters and to more efficiently promote the headquarters strategy.

Name Change: Car Carrier Group

Following the renaming of Car Carrier Group No. 2, Car Carrier Group No. 1 will become the Car Carrier Group.

Established: Fuel Solution Group

To continue to fulfill the important responsibility of transporting existing fuel and to contribute to the value chain of ammonia, a zero-emission fuel, and to provide optimal services by controlling both groups in the same division, the Steaming Coal Group will be transferred from the Dry Bulk Division to the Energy Division, and the Fuel Solution Group will be newly established. (The Steaming Coal Group will be dissolved.)

Established: Ship Business Group

In addition to technical development support and cooperation with technical group companies, a new Ship Business Group will be established within the Technical Headquarters to provide solutions to various issues of maritime clusters from a technological perspective and contribute to the realization of safe and sustainable maritime transport.

Name Change: ESG Management Group

To further strengthen the Group's functions for formulating ESG management strategies and achieving companywide KPI targets, some functions of the Environment Group and others of the ESG Management Promotion Group will be integrated into the ESG Management Group, which will be positioned within the newly established ESG Strategy Headquarters.

Established: Decarbonization Group

The Decarbonization Group will be established within the new ESG Strategy Headquarters by partially merging the functions of the Corporate Planning Group and the Environment Group to formulate and promote a decarbonization strategy, a compilation of targets, and action plans to achieve these targets.

Dissolved: Environment Group

The Environment Group will be dissolved as its functions are transferred to the ESG Management Group and the Decarbonization Group.
