In recognition of its strong commitment to human rights initiatives and other environmental, social, and governance (ESG) measures, NYK India Private Limited received a compliance-related award at a conference hosted in 2023 by a customer for its suppliers and business partners. This favorable evaluation has elevated the company’s commitment to ESG initiatives even further.

We conduct onshore training that uses ship-handling simulators, which reproduce actual ship-handling conditions as realistically as possible. To continue safe ship operations in an era of diversifying ship types, our crew members around the world constantly update their knowledge and technical skills.

Trainees earnestly absorb the knowledge needed to become an engineer. In 2006, NYK became the first Japanese shipping company to establish an in-house training program that provides a pathway by which graduates of general four-year universities or technical colleges can become navigation officers or engineers after joining the Company. To date, more than 100 employees have obtained licenses as navigation officers or engineers through the system and are now working in these positions.

A project member engaged in selecting plants and trees for transplantation to Yu no Mori forest. White string has been used as a marker for the creation of a strip road. Yellow tape is wrapped around trees to be cut down to make way for the road.

In 2021, after participating in COP26 in Glasgow in the United Kingdom, members of the Environmental Group (currently the Decarbonization Group) visited NYK Group Europe Ltd. in London to hold a study session on ESG for the entire European region. NYK will continue updating its information and ESG literacy through cooperation with Group companies in Europe, which is the most progressive region in terms of environmental regulations.

An NYK Digital Academy experiential learning session on design thinking being held in Singapore; short-term intensive exercises conducted overseas are incorporated into the curriculum so that trainees can learn in light of broader perspectives.

The saw and axe used in the sawing and axing ceremonies that were part of a ceremony conducted to appease the tree spirits that inhabit Yu no Mori forest. Since time immemorial, rituals have been performed to appease tree spirits before felling standing timber.

This large panel shows lessons learned from the oil spill accident at Naka-no-Se in Tokyo Bay. The panel is displayed in-house to prevent the accident from being forgotten and to ensure that personnel are always mindful of the importance of safe ship operations.
