1.    New medium-term management plan, More Than Shipping 2018 —Stage 2 leveraged by Creative Solutions-”
 
March: NYK announced its new medium-term management plan, a five-year plan starting from April 2014.

Strengthening NYK’s container transportation competitiveness
 
April: NYK reached time charter agreements for eight new 14,000 TEU container vessels that will feature improved fuel efficiency compared with today's containerships of a similar size.
 
September:NYK transferred container stowage planning to the Kumamoto office of Kozo Keikaku Engineering Inc. in Japan, from NYK’s office in Singapore.

Expanding the group’s auto logistics business
 
January: Kazakhstan and Indonesia; June: Mexico; October: Myanmar
NYK established more auto logistics business bases, particularly in newly emerging countries, and enhanced the group’s auto logistics services.

Practical use of LNG fuel
 
March: United European Car Carriers (UECC),* which is jointly owned by NYK and Wallenius Lines, signed a contract to construct two dual-fuel LNG pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs).
 
July: NYK decided to build the world’s first LNG bunkering vessel to participate in the LNG bunkering business.

January: NYK welcomed the first Filipinos to take on the roles of captain and chief engineer on an NYK-operated LNG vessel.

October:Nippon Yuka Kogyo's SKY-SYSTEM (ballast-water management system) received approval from Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
