NYK Welcomes 21 Filipino Diplomats

In late October, 21 young diplomats from the Philippines visited the NYK head office and later toured the NYK Maritime Museum and Hikawa Maru museum ship as part of the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths, or JENESYS 2019, a measure sponsored by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide a sound foundation for strong solidarity within Asia through large-scale youth exchange.

On October 28, personnel welcomed the youths to NYK’s head office in Tokyo to review the company’s business activities and how Filipino seafarers are playing an important role in the shipping industry. The company also introduced the NYK-TDG Maritime Academy (NTMA), which is located in the suburbs of Manila and jointly run by NYK and the Transnational Diversified Group (TDG).* In addition, a Filipino seafarer who works at the NYK head office talked about his work and life in Tokyo, and many questions were asked by the youths.

On October 30, the diplomats visited the NYK Maritime Museum and the Hikawa Maru museum ship in Yokohama to learn more about the company’s contributions to the shipping industry in Japan.

The NYK Group will continue to work to expand its business while striving to improve both the quantity and quality of Filipino seafarers by strengthening the company’s relationship with the Philippines.

* The Transnational Diversified Group (TDG) is a globally competitive and highly progressive Philippine-owned business group that comprises over 40 companies, primarily in logistics, ship management & manpower, travel & tourism, information and communications technology, and other investments in industries such as renewable energy, agriculture, and real estate. Since its establishment in 1976, TDG has been actively working with NYK and has since become a respected strategic partner of large global corporations as a result of its world-class experience and win-win outlook.
