NYK Issues Its 2018 NYK Report

August 31, 2018

NYK has issued the English version of the company’s 2018 NYK Report, which includes information that would traditionally be found in an annual report and a CSR report.

The 2018 report introduces the NYK Group’s initiatives toward sustainable growth in a harsh shipping environment from the perspective of business strategy, material issues, and ESG (environmental, social, and governance) initiatives.

This year’s report opens with an “NYK Group at a Glance” section that provides readers with a quick, five-minute read about the origins and future vision of the group. And NYK president Tadaaki Naito follows by explaining the group’s strategy for creating new value, as set out in the new medium-term management plan announced in March 2018.

The report gives much attention to the company’s emphasis on digital technology and environmental issues — i.e., “Digitalization and Green,” key areas of focus emphasized in the medium-term management plan. In fact, in a special dialogue, Koji Sekimizu, secretary-general emeritus of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), shares his thoughts with Captain Tomoyuki Koyama, an NYK managing corporate officer, about the group’s initiatives related to its material issues — i.e., safety, the environment, and human resources — and the future of maritime governance.
