NYK Group Panel Discussion with NUS Enterprise Cultivates Open Innovation in the Shipping and Logistics Industry

Symphony Creative Solutions Pte. Ltd. (SCS),* an NYK Group company, in cooperation with the National University of Singapore (NUS), through its entrepreneurial arm NUS Enterprise,** held a panel discussion on March 23 at BLOCK71 Singapore*** to promote open innovation in the shipping and logistics industry.

At the event, Kosuke Wada, senior vice president of Ocean Network Express Pte. Ltd. (ONE),**** introduced ONE’s strategy for innovation and spoke about major issues in the container business. Another speaker presented the latest information on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technology, and provided an example of AI being used in the shipping industry. A lot of questions about issues in the container business were asked from participants who filled the seminar hall




Since last year, SCS has organized four similar events to provide information about the shipping and logistics industry to startups in BLOCK71. Communication with the startup community is ongoing, and today a kickoff event for the Ocean of Opportunities Challenge (O3 challenge; http://ooo.sg/) was held at BLOCK71 for the purpose of creating new value through open innovation.

In accordance with its new medium-term management plan “Staying Ahead 2022 with Digitalization and Green,” the NYK Group seeks to create new value by making use of the latest digital technology for innovation in the shipping industry.

A Singapore-based global container shipping company that began operations on April 1 by integrating the container businesses of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd., Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd., and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha.
