NYK Included in Three New ESG Indexes
July 4, 2017
NYK has been included in three new ESG indexes, the first being the FTSE Blossom Japan Index created by global index provider FTSE Russell,* and the two others being the MSCI Japan ESG Select Leaders Index and the MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index created by MSCI.** The Government Pension Investment Fund for Japan, one of the world’s largest pension funds, has selected these three indexes as benchmarks for its ESG investment strategy.
The FTSE Blossom Japan Index has been designed to provide market participants with a tool to identify and measure the performance of Japanese companies that demonstrate strong environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices. FTSE Russell measures a company’s exposure to, and management of, ESG issues in multiple dimensions such as corporate governance, health & safety, anti-corruption, and climate change. This index has been constructed to be industry neutral compared with the Japanese equity market.
The MSCI Japan ESG Select Leaders Index has been designed to target companies that have the best ESG profile relative to sector peers. The MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index recognizes companies that are promoting and maintaining gender diversity among their workforce.
NYK, as a good corporate citizen, will continue to advocate strong ESG practices.
