Children from Hope&Wish Welcomed Aboard

August 15, 2017

NYK Cruises Co. Ltd. (head office: Yokohama; president: Hiroshi Hattori), an NYK Group company, welcomed aboard children with rare, serious diseases and their family members — 87 in total — for a tour of Asuka II while the ship was calling Yokohama on August 11.

NYK Cruises has actively supported the mission of Hope&Wish (head office: Tokyo; representative director: Riki Osumi; website: http://www.yumewo.org (in Japanese)), a public interest incorporated association, by providing children afflicted with rare, serious diseases with the opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of a luxury cruise ship in port, an outing that would normally be terribly challenging for these children and their family members.

This was the second time for NYK Cruises and Hope&Wish to coordinate this event. The children and their family members, escorted by Hope&Wish staff members and 38 NYK Group volunteers, including members of NYK Cruises, toured the ship and enjoyed entertainment that included a magic show, hula dance lesson, quiz game, and an original Asuka production.

The NYK Group remains committed to being a good corporate citizen contributing to the well-being of the community.
