NYK Reaches Agreement for Eight New 14,000 TEU Vessels

April 14, 2014

NYK has reached time charter agreements for eight new containerships, each capable of carrying 14,000 TEUs. These vessels will be built at the Kure shipyard of Japan Marine United Co. Ltd. (head office: Tokyo; president: Shinjiro Mishima).

These ships, which will be delivered from February 2016 through January 2018, will have improved fuel efficiency and cargo loadability among today's container ships of similar size.

After delivery, the vessels will be put into service in Asia and Europe as replacements for existing ships, including four 13,000 TEU vessels chartered from Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL).

NYK will continue its efforts to provide higher quality, more competitive services for our customers through the introduction of eco-friendly ships.
