NYK Selected for Inclusion in RobecoSAM's Bronze Class
February 13, 2013
NYK is proud to have been included in the Bronze Class of the 2013 Sustainability Yearbook compiled by RobecoSAM AG* (RobecoSAM) in Switzerland. The yearbook is regarded as the world’s most comprehensive annual publication on corporate sustainability performance, and NYK was the only Japanese company in the industrial transportation sector to be recognized as a “sustainability leader.”
RobecoSAM is a global SRI-evaluation** company that selects companies for inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), one of the world’s two largest indexes. Every year, RobecoSAM rates companies that conduct superior corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities and places the top companies in one of three classes: gold, silver, or bronze.
From 3,000 leading companies around the world operating in 58 industries, RobecoSAM selected the top 465 companies — those that have outstanding corporate sustainability in terms of management, society, environment, and other relevant issues. Thirty-five Japanese companies including NYK were among those 465. RobecoSAM then placed 226 of those companies into the three classes — 67 in the Gold Class, 52 in the Silver Class, and 107 in the Bronze Class. In the industrial transportation sector, 10 companies were included — one in the Gold Class, three in the Silver Class, and six in the Bronze Class.
As a good corporate citizen, NYK will continue to take an active role in social issues, including conservation of the environment, to contribute to the achievement of a better global society.
On January 14, 2013, Sustainable Asset Management was renamed RobecoSAM AG.
Socially Responsible Investment (SRI): investment based on not only a company's economic performance but also its environmental measures, compliance with laws, and other corporate social responsibility factors as evaluation criteria.
