NYK Scholarships Offered for 12th Consecutive Year in China

During the month of November, 76 Chinese students were the fortunate recipients of scholarships from NYK.
On November 13, an awards ceremony was held at Shanghai Maritime University (SMU), where 36 students were recognized for their academic excellence, fine demeanor and encouraged to develop into socially responsible and intelligent young Chinese filled with an international vision. Those in attendance included Naoya Tazawa, NYK representative director and senior managing corporate officer;Keizo Nagai, NYK corporate officer and chief representative for China; and Jin Yongxing, the vice-president of SMU.
During the ceremony, Mr. Tazawa commented, “This year is the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Sino-Japan diplomatic relationship. Achieving deeper, friendlierbonds between Japan and China requires devotion from young people like university students. Communication and visits between youths in both countries is highly important to enhance mutual understanding and build trust.
SMU president Huang Youfang met with Mr. Tazawa and Mr. Nagai prior to the ceremony and expressed his heartfelt appreciation and respect for NYK’s 12 years of support and his hope for a continual relationship and additional cooperation in promoting maritime education and scientific research.
Earlier in the month, an awards ceremony was held at Dalian Maritime University (DMU), where 40 students were given scholarships by Mr. Nagai. At the ceremony, DMU vice-president Liu Zhengjiang expressed his appreciation for NYK's long-term support, particularly during years when economies were struggling.
Since 2001 when the NYK Group initiated this CSR program at SMU and DMU, 661 students have received dedicated scholarships from NYK. The NYK Group will continue to support maritime education to contribute to global trade and society.
