NYK Concludes Long-Term Contract with BHP Billiton

September 15, 2010

NYK has concluded a 12-year contract with BHP Billiton, one of the world’s largest mining companies, for the transport of iron ore from Western Australia to China.

Shipments will begin from 2013 using a 250,000 DWT class ore carrier. The annual volume is expected to be about 2.7 million tons. In addition to the 12-year contract, a three-year contract for a 200,000 DWT class Capesize bulker was started from April 2010.

This is the first long-term deal between NYK and BHP Billiton, greatly strengthening the partnership between the two companies.

NYK will continue to make every effort to remain at the forefront of transport services in response to increasing demand for the stable transport of natural resources.
