NYK Group Provides Aid to Victims of China Qinghai Earthquake

May 27, 2010

The NYK Group has provided donations totaling about 4.8 million yen to the victims of the earthquake that occurred in China’s Qinghai province on April 14. The donations were made through the Red Cross in each country. We received donations from executives and employees of the NYK Group in Japan and NYK overseas offices and branches in East Asia including China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Korea and then added a matching gift* to the donations.

The NYK Group decided to collect donations from employees within the group immediately after the earthquake, and subsequently received donations of 565,882 yen from NYK executives and employees in Japan. The company then added a matching gift to a donation that now totaled 1,131,764 yen for the Japanese Red Cross Society. Moreover, matching gifts were added to donations from overseas offices and branches in East Asia by each office or branch and subsequently sent to the Red Cross in each country. These donations by the NYK Group will be used for the Red Cross’ recovery activities.

In addition to the donations, the NYK Group is accepting requests for free transportation of aid, depending on the needs of those in the affected areas.

We offer our condolences to those in this area and our wishes for a quick recovery.

*Matching Gift: A program under which NYK provides an additional contribution proportional to the contributions made by employees to an NPO or similar organization.
