NYK Provides Aid to Victims of the Chile Earthquake

April 27, 2010

(C)AMDA
Medical checkup for infants

The NYK Group has provided donations totaling 1,960,294 yen to the victims of the earthquake that occurred on February 27 in Chile. The donations were made through the nonprofit organization Association of Medical Doctors of Asia (AMDA). NYK received donations of 980,147 yen from NYK Group executives and employees, and then added a matching gift* to the donations.

AMDA promptly organized an experienced support team totaling 67 doctors, nurses, and local volunteers arranged through the Chilean government’s earthquake task force, Health Ministry, and local hospital dispatched them to areas in need to assist with the care of infants. The team provided medical checkups, visited homes, distributed relief supplies, and provided health guidance to prevent infectious diseases. Moreover, an additional group of doctors, nurses, coordinators, and counselors were dispatched from Japan, Bolivia, and Peru, to provide assistance through March 31.

In addition to the donations, the NYK Group is accepting requests for free ocean transportation of aid, depending on the needs of those in the affected areas, through the NYK Group - JPF Joint Aid Supplies Transportation Projects, which is coordinated with Japan Platform (JPF), an international humanitarian assistance organization.

Our hope is for a quick recovery of all in this area through this aid and support program.
