March 30, 2010

The NYK Group has provided donations totaling 2,468,814 yen to the victims of the earthquake that occurred on January 12 in Haiti. The donations were made through Plan Japan,* which is a member of the international organization Plan.**

NYK is also offering free ocean transportation of aid through the NYK Group - JPF Joint Aid Supplies Transportation Projects, which is coordinated with Japan Platform (JPF), an international humanitarian assistance organization, NYK received donations of 1,234,407 yen from NYK Group executives and employees, and then added a matching gift*** to the donations.

Immediately after the earthquake, Plan, who has been working in Haiti for 37 years, began its emergency relief activities to meet the immediate needs of the affected people providing food, water, waterproof sheets, blankets, hygiene kits, and other emergency-relief goods with Government of Haiti, the UN and other NGOs. Two months after the earthquake, as a member of Post-disaster needs assessment group initiated by the government with NGOs and the UN, Plan is working to reflect needs of children to recovery activities.

The donation by NYK Group will be used for the education and mental-health support program conducted by Plan. Our hopes are for a quick recovery of all in this area through this support for the children.
