NYK Group Opens Branch in Nanjing

March 5, 2010

On February 12, 2010, NYK Logistics (China) Co. Ltd. (hereinafter NLC), a wholly owned subsidiary of NYK, opened a branch along the Yangtze River in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu province in China.

NLC established its head office in Shanghai on June 1, 2000, the first logistics company wholly owned by a Japanese company to do so, and since then, NLC has set up branches in Tianjin, Qingdao, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Fuzhou, Dalian, Ningbo and Suzhou, mainly cities along the seacoast. The establishment of the Nanjing branch is the first step for NYK to expand its business inland.

Furthermore, NLC is preparing to open branches in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province, located inland along the Yangtze River, and Wuxi, which is located in the Yangtze River Delta. These offices are now representative offices and set to open as branches in May 2010.

NLC also places emphasis on environmental activities, affirmed by the NLC head office’s acquisition of ISO 14001:2004 from Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance Limited (LRQA) on October 30, 2009. NLC was the pioneer for the acquisition of ISO 14001:2004 among major Japanese logistics companies.

The NYK Group will continue to provide a comprehensive service to customers by utilizing its seacoast network in addition to its developing inland network along the Yangtze River, while also emphasizing the company’s environmental activities.
