NYK was established in 1885. The company's history is a history of Japanese marine transport since the Meiji era (1868-1912) and an integral part of Japanese modern history. The NYK Maritime Museum introduces extensive images of the company, reflecting different eras since its foundation. Additionally, the museum displays how Japanese marine transport has been involved historically in people's lifestyles.

Hikawa Maru is a cargo-passenger liner that was built in 1930 for the Japan-Seattle line.
After 30 years of service, since 1961 the ship has been kept at Yamashita Park, where it has become the symbol of the port of Yokohama visited by many people over many years. In August 2016, the ship was designated as a nationally Important Cultural Property.

Tour areas include the passenger areas which show the beautiful Art Deco interiors, the wheelhouse, the crew areas which used to be the inboard working area such as the spectacular engine room, and the exhibition area which displays the history of Hikawa Maru. On the outdoor deck, you can relax and enjoy the lovely port view from one of the deck chairs.
