June 25, 2010
On June 11, Bao Min, a new 300,000 DWT class ore carrier built by Nantong Cosco KHI Engineering Co. Ltd. (NACKS), was delivered to NYK.
This vessel is the second 300,000 DWT class ore carrier for NYK, following Oita Maru, which was delivered in March. Moreover, NYK is the first Japanese shipping company to receive a 300,000 DWT class ore carrier developed by NACKS.
At the naming and delivery ceremony, Li Jianming, deputy general manager of the Raw Materials Purchasing Center at Baoshan Iron and Steel Co. Ltd. and NYK corporate officer Kazuo Ogasawara joined a number of others in attendance to celebrate the maiden voyage of the vessel.
The vessel will be chartered exclusively to Baosteel over the next 20 years to transport 1.2 million tons of iron ore annually from Brazil to China. This is the fourth of five contracts that NYK currently has with Baosteel and a new 250,000 DWT class ore carrier is planned to enter service in October.
NYK continues its efforts to provide stable transportation of natural resources.
