NYK Group Employees Help Prepare School Backpacks for Shipment to Afghanistan

Volunteers preparing school backpacks

On April 11, 10 employees from five different NYK Group companies joined nearly 200 others from 21 different companies and organizations to check and pack 9,600 used school backpacks that will be sent to Afghanistan etc. by the NGO(Non Government Organization) JOICFP (Japanese Organization for International Cooperation in Family Planning). 

 
About 8,000 of the school backpacks will be shipped at the end of April via an NYK containership. The backpacks will be unloaded at a port in Pakistan and then transported over land to Afghanistan.
 
Since 2004, NYK has provided free transport for 46,320 of these school backpacks. Additionally, since 2000 NYK provided complementary transport for 22,614 reconditioned bicycles that have been given to people in 61 countries.
