Redesigned Palm Court
Completing a two-week extreme makeover, ultra-luxe Crystal Cruises, a wholly owned subsidiary of NYK, reveals chic-ly redesigned major public spaces aboard Crystal Symphony, including the Avenue Saloon, Palm Court, Galaxy showroom, Hollywood Theatre, Bridge Lounge, Fantasia and Waves “junior cruisers” areas, and the tender landing/passenger boarding area.
“In keeping with our tremendous focus on design, we wanted to create something both highly contemporary and yet extremely accessible,” says Crystal President Gregg Michel. “The ultimate result is all our guests’ favorite gathering places now feeling even more welcoming, while also offering the stylish sophistication and comfortable elegance luxury travelers look for in a vacation setting, and expect from Crystal.”
The new PALM COURT delivers an uber-contemporary “wow” setting for tea, views, dancing, and drinks. Intimate, leather seating areas surround a larger, spiral-design dance floor and stainless and hand-tiled mosaic bar. A smoky mirrored ceiling reflects a mix of white, laser-cut Calacatta marble, swirled wood, and graphic carpet flooring. Lighting, including lucite sconces; six-foot, lit alabaster urns; crystal branch ceiling feature; and Murano glass table lamps, highlight the aqua, chartreuse, ash, and cream colors. The emblematic palm theme endures in pillow fabric and Sago palm trees.
The AVENUE SALOON’s rich mahogany-paneled walls, leather upholstery, brass nailhead trim, velvets, and inset rugs remind one of a 19th-century manor. Shuttered windows frame new furniture in regal burgundies, golds, caramels, sages, and ivories. Romantic lighting, antique-style trunks, custom artwork, and a new layout add to the club feeling.
In the GALAXY LOUNGE, crystal lighting, carpet, and curtains surround a stage expanded 30 percent. Modern mohair seating, cocktail tables, under-banquette lighting, and sculpture coves set the backdrop for a purple, pink, and crimson color scheme. Digital signage outside a redesigned entrance announces each evening’s excitement.
Inspired by Art Deco movie palaces, the HOLLYWOOD THEATRE’s walls are a mixture of woodgrain, silk, and custom-woven acoustic paneling. Velvet, plum curtains hide the screen, while decorative pendant lamps and underseat lighting provide a soft glow. Earth tones abound, especially in the new, spherical carpet and high-back, leather seats.
Crystal’s junior cruisers’ areas, WAVES and FANTASIA provide added flexibility and sectional privacy for all ages and activities, from videogames to crafts. Against a woodgrain base, reds, limes, denims, and pinks are intermixed throughout the graphic harlequin carpeting, custom “tree” wallcovering, oversized sofas, Marimekko FatboyTM bean bags, and ‘70’s-classic Casala Casalino chairs and tables--creating a trendy “rec room” look.
The BRIDGE LOUNGE has been transformed into a classic Palm Beach card room via soothing blues and tans, ambient sconces, paneled walls, wooden built-ins, floor-to-ceiling drapes, Roman sheers, and modern chandelier hanging from a 12K gold domed ceiling.
The redesigned TENDER EMBARKATION AREA offers contemporary benches for comfortable seating and five-foot-tall travel photographs to inspire wanderlust. Aged teak flooring, bright lighting, and striped canvas curtains reflect the ambiance of the pool deck.
New tech enhancements include electronic “do not disturb” doorbell systems and cordless digital telephones in all staterooms, and top-of-the-line audio and projection systems in presentation and lounge spaces. New Penthouse shower doors, recovered verandah furniture, tennis court resurfacing, tender shuttle sprucing, galley updates, environmentally upgraded boilers, and a new, energy-efficient hydrogel hull paint cap off the massive cleaning and maintenance detail of the ship’s entire exterior and interior.
With the dry dock taking place at Hamburg’s Blohm + Voss shipyard, hundreds of chairs, stools, tables, and cabinets were donated directly to Hamburg-area residents-in-need via charitable organizations.
Crystal’s passion for taking care of guests in an inviting environment of extraordinary space, quality, and choices has earned the company more “World’s Best” awards than any other cruise line, resort, or hotel in history. A keen focus on design has also earned the line numerous industry design honors, including first-ever awards from Hospitality Design magazine and the Association of Retail Environments (A.R.E.) in 2012.
The NYK Group will continue its efforts to offer safe, luxurious vacation experiences that Impress and delight our guests.
