NYK Reaches Agreement with Kansai Electric Power Co. for Coal Transport
December 4, 2008
NYK and Kansai Electric Power Co. (KEPCO) have reached an agreement on the use of a bulk carrier to transport coal. The coal will be shipped to KEPCO's Maizuru Power Plant, which plans to start its second generator in August 2010 and anticipates needing twice the amount of coal currently used.
NYK will provide KEPCO with a new 88,000 DWT bulk carrier, which will be delivered in 2010 from Imabari Shipbuilding Co., and transport 800,000 tons of steaming coal annually for ten consecutive years, mainly from Australia to the power plant.
