The 3rd NYK Nature Fellowship Welcome-Back Ceremony Held
December 3, 2008

A welcome-back ceremony for recipients of the 2008 NYK Nature Fellowship was held on 21 November at the NYK head office in Tokyo. At the ceremony, university students and NYK staff members were jointed by Kikujiro Namba, the chairman of Earthwatch Institute- Japan, and Yoko Takahashi, the president of the Japan Philanthropic Association both who selected the Nature Fellowship members.
Fellowship recipients received certificates and spoke about their research projects, and each recipient mentioned a desire to use the experience to encourage others to think more deeply about environmental issues. NYK president Koji Miyahara thanked the recipients and others concerned, and encouraged recipients to build on their experiences for the betterment of society.

The following day, an event was held for elementary school students at the NYK Maritime Museum to promote greater environmental awareness. At the event, the fellowship recipients each spoke in a child-friendly way about their experiences.
Next year, the NYK Group will continue the NYK Nature Fellowship, which gives university students and NYK staff members the opportunity to participate in various environment-related research projects around the world.
