NYK Holds Fourth Annual Global Manning Meeting
November 14, 2008

On November 10, NYK held its fourth annual global manning meeting at the NYK head office in Tokyo. Over 50 individuals from eight countries – Japan, Croatia, Romania, Ukraine, India, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines – participated in the event, which included representatives from companies involved in manning, ship management, and other fields of shipping.
This meeting is held yearly to review measures to be taken to secure and prepare seafarers around the world for service within the NYK fleet.
NYK president Koji Miyahara joined the meeting and after expressing his gratitude to those attending, he asked them to continue their efforts to man NYK vessels with the finest seafarers available. He also emphasized the importance of continual communication, and each participating company reported on concrete actions taken or problems encountered over the previous year.
NYK's medium – term management plan, New Horizon 2010, outlines the company's intention to expand its fleet from about 800 to 1,000 vessels. As can be expected, a great number of quality seafarers will be required to safely operate these vessels. To achieve the company's requirements, NYK has introduced a number of programs, including the placement of training facilities on new LNG vessels, which allows for on-site instruction to occur.
