June 24, 2008

In response to the tragic loss experienced by so many in Sichuan province in China, which was rocked by a powerful earthquake on May 12, the NYK Group has worked to be of assistance to those in need by engaging in the following relief activities:

1. Donations

As we mentioned in an earlier press release, the NYK Group will donate 10 million yen to this cause. We have since decided to funnel this donation through Plan Japan.

Plan Japan, which is part of Plan International, will work with Plan China to reconstruct and repair damaged schools and to provide psychological services to children in need. An actual aid plan will be arranged with the NYK Group. NYK also worked with Plan Japan in providing aid those who experienced loss during the 2006 earthquake in Java, Indonesia.

2. Transport of Relief Supplies

Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA; president Tadamasa Ishida; head office: Tokyo), a subsidiary of NYK, will charter a plane from Kansai International Airport to Chengdu, China. The plane will carry 50 tons of bottled water and 540 tents. The flight schedule is as follows:

    NCA Pegasus (Boeing 747-400F)
Departure from Kansai International Airport: June 21; 2145

We will continue to respond to requests for marine transport.
