NYK Ranked No.7 in 'Best Companies to
Work for in Japan' Survey

Great Place to Work® Institute Japan
Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK; head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; president: Koji Miyahara) was ranked seventh in the second annual "Best Companies to Work For In Japan" survey conducted by the Great Place to Work® Institute Japan, the Japanese affiliate of the U.S.-based Great Place to Work® Institute.

The Great Place to Work® Institute defines a great place to work as a place where employees "trust the people they work for, have pride in what they do, and enjoy the people they work with." The institute publishes its Best Companies lists primarily on the basis of its proprietary database. Data used in selecting companies include employee responses to an institute questionnaire, the results of a basic information survey completed by employees, and data on the company's internal system and corporate culture.

NYK decided to participate in the institute survey from this year, since the institute's definition of a great place to work is close to NYK's corporate direction and the intentions of NYK as an employer. In addition, NYK considered it a good opportunity to evaluate itself as a company alongside other companies on the basis of common criteria - the institute survey. Using this recognition as encouragement, NYK will continue to improve its internal systems.

The Great Place to Work® Institute has a proud record of more than 20 years in recognizing quality companies. Its 100 Best Companies to Work For® surveys have been conducted in 29 countries throughout the world using common criteria. The 100 Best Companies to Work For® list is published every January in Fortune, a U.S. economic magazine. Being named to this list is recognized globally as a great honor.

NYK continues to pursue close cooperation between management and employees in order to provide valuable monohakobi (transportation) services through a number of wide-ranging operational improvements.
