Support Provided by NYK to Persons Affected by the Chu-etsu Offshore Earthquake
July 26, 2007
The NYK Group would like to express its sincere sympathy to those affected by the recent Chu-etsu Offshore Earthquake. The company hopes for a speedy recovery for all parties and is taking a number of steps to help.
To begin with, NYK is donating 10 million yen in aid to the people in the area. Internally, an employee matching-gift fundraising activity was begun on July 17, 2007, under which the company will match the amount raised by its employees; it will then forward the total sum to the Niigata Prefecture Emergency Taskforce Headquarters.
Separately, NYK affiliate Nippon Yuka Kogyo Co. Ltd.* donated 200 (500 ml) bottles of its O-Xtra cleaning agent in an effort to aid the supply team at the Niigata Prefecture Emergency Taskforce Headquarters. The bottles were shipped to Kashiwazaki City Hall and Kariwa Village Office in Niigata Prefecture on July 20, 2007, for use in eliminating odor from raw garbage generated at the affected sites.
* Nippon Yuka Kogyo Co., Ltd. (head office: Yusen Building 3F, 3-9 Kaigan-dori, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan; president: Shigeru Kaketani) is the sole chemical manufacturer within the NYK Group. The company was established in July 1960, and its main products are fuel additives for ships, and chemical cleaning agents. The company also provides car-wash solution to gas stands at major oil companies. The company' factory in Totsuka-ku, Yokohama, has had numerous successes in the analyses of oil and other liquids using its experimental and analytical laboratories for research and development.
