NYK Engineering Co., Ltd.*1 ("NYK Engineering"; President: Takami Hirahara), one of Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha's ("NYK"; President: Koji Miyahara) group companies, has become the first new shipbuilding consultancy in Japan to obtain ISO 9001:2000 certification.*2 By obtaining the certificate, NYK Engineering has verified the establishment of a quality management system in their new shipbuilding consultancy service, which includes design of new shipbuilding, approval drawings, and site supervision.
NYK Engineering receives large orders from various customers. Upon receiving this certification, the company will be able to further develop and assure the quality of ships that are currently under construction. The company will also strive to provide more detailed consulting services than ever before.

NYK Engineering was established in 1982. Its main businesses are consultancy and providing an agency service for new shipbuilding. The company participates in various marine projects by utilizing its expertise in maritime engineering and is known as a multidisciplinary engineering company.
ISO 9001:2000 is the required standard for establishment, implementation, and maintenance of a quality management system. NYK Engineering obtained certification from Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance Limited (LRQA), and registered the certification at the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and the Japan Accreditation Board for Conformity Assessment (JAB).
