Antiterrorism Exercise Conducted in Hong Kong

On May 19, NYK and the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) conducted a joint antiterrorism exercise based on a scenario in which NYK's 77,372 gross-ton bulk carrier Suma had been boarded by terrorists. This is the second joint exercise that NYK has conducted with the HKPF over the past year.

The exercise scenario called for the Special Duties Unit of the HKPF to dispatch high-speed boats, helicopters, and divers to the vessel, and to search for, find, and subdue the terrorists.

Employees at NYK's head office in Tokyo, NYK Line Hong Kong, and NYK Shipmanagement in Singapore also participated in the exercise and were able to reconfirm their roles in dealing with acts of terrorism.

NYK will continue to participate in joint exercises with the competent authorities of various countries in order to prepare for and prevent against not only marine terrorism but also other conceivable emergencies as well.
