Container-ship Collides with Chinese Bulk Carrier

On Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at 11:08, Chinese Standard Time, Katsuragi, a Panamanian-flagged 50,437 gross-ton (3613 TEU) container ship, collided with Guo Feng a Chinese bulk carrier, while Katsuragi was waiting for the arrival of at pilot station off Qingdao, at latitude. 36 degrees north,longitude. 120degrees, 27. 8 minutes east.

Regretfully, the bulk carrier sank with a crew of sixteen on board. Katsuragi was involved in the rescue of ten of Guo Feng's seafarers and continues its search, in co-operation with authorities, for the missing six crew members.

There were no injuries on board Katsuragi, or serious damage to the vessel. Katsuragi has a complement of twenty-seven seafarers a Croatian captain, four Croatian officers, five Filipino officers, two Chinese cadets, and fifteen Filipino crewmen.
