NYK Receives the Philippines International Employers Award

Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) has received the Philippine government's International Employers Award for the second time for the company's long-term commitment to the employment of Filipino seafarers and to the Philippine maritime industry. This award is sponsored by the president of the Philippines and the minister of labor and employment.
An award ceremony was held at a hotel in Manila on November 20, and on the following day, a ceremony was held at Malacanang Palace, at which NYK was presented with both the Presidential Award and the Minister of Labor and Employment Award for the company's outstanding contributions. Further, Mr. Koji Miyahara, president of NYK, was individually honored with the Presidential Award for his contributions. Mr. Yukio Ozawa, vice-president of NYK, attended the ceremony on behalf of the company and President Miyahara.
NYK continues to devote itself to the education and development of excellent Filipino crew members.
The Philippines International Employers Awards are presented to foreign companies, groups, and individuals that contribute to the Philippines and the employment of Filipinos. This year, 56 groups received the Minister of Labor and Employment Award and the Presidential Award went to 25 companies, seven maritime groups, and eight individuals.
NYK strives to foster and employ Filipino seafarers through various institutes in the Philippines, such as the NYK-TDG Maritime Academy, which is scheduled to open in June 2007.
