NYK's affiliate, Crystal Cruise Inc., wins Cruise Ship Environmental Award.

The cruise ship 'Crystal Harmony' operated by Crystal Cruise Inc., one of NYK's U.S. based affiliate companies, was granted the Cruise Ship Environmental Award sponsored by the Cruise Terminal Environmental Advisory Committee (CTEAC) of the Port of San Francisco.

The awards are presented to companies or vessels that have contributed to improving the environment by reducing air pollution and water contamination in the Port of San Francisco. 'Crystal Harmony' docked at the Port of San Francisco 11 times from May to September this year. The ship's crews have been paying strict attention to the speed and route regulations when docking at the port in order to reduce burnout fuel. In addition, the vessel utilizes sub-fuel which increases engine efficiency to reduce particulate air pollution. Moreover, a review of wastewater treatment agents and the promotion of paper recycling have been evaluated positively by the committee.

Crystal Cruise Inc. aims to reduce the environmental impact of its ships on all ports worldwide as well. They seek cooperation not only from their employees but also from passengers to recycle during their cruise and to be environmentally friendly.

'Crystal Harmony' will be replacing NYK's cruise ship 'Asuka' in March 2006. Upon replacement, 'Crystal Harmony' will be re-named 'Asuka II' and will operate mainly from Japanese ports. On board the 'Asuka II', the crews will continuously strive to conserve the environment by running an environmentally-friendly vessel.
