NYK Group Assists with Disaster Relief after Earthquake in Pakistan

October 13, 2005

The NYK Group and its group company Tokyo Senpaku Kaisha, Ltd., (TSK Line) are currently engaged in the complimentary transport of necessary commodities by ship to the earthquake stricken areas of Pakistan.

The affected areas are located in the central part of Pakistan. Therefore, commodities unloaded at port are then transported over land. In order to provide prompt and effective relief, NYK is collaborating closely with Japan Platform (JPF; http://www.japanplatform.org), an NPO that provides international humanitarian assistance and acts as an intermediary between NGOs and business enterprises.

TSK Line has a Japan - Pakistan containership service twice a week. On these scheduled services, aid is being transported to Pakistan from Japan.

NYK and the JPF also collaborated in the NYK Group - JPF Joint Aid Supplies Transportation Project, which was established to provide aid during the aftermath of the immense earthquake that occurred off the northern tip of Sumatra, Indonesia, and the tremendous damage in Southeast and South Asia that resulted from the subsequent tsunami.

Moreover, in addition to the complimentary transport, the NYK Group will match all donations made by NYK Group employees to organizations aiding the effort in Pakistan.
