NYK Wins the Second Asahi Corporation Citizen Award
September 27, 2005
Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) will be presented with the second Asahi Corporate Citizen Award, sponsored by the Asahi Shimbun Company, at a ceremony scheduled to take place on October 26 at the Ginko Club in Tokyo. This marks the first time that a company in the maritime industry has been selected to receive this recognition.
The NYK Group provided free transport services to disaster-stricken areas in response to the immense earthquake that occurred off the northern tip of Sumatra, Indonesia, and the tremendous damage in Southeast and South Asia that resulted from the subsequent tsunami. NYK continues to offer logistical support required by NGOs for a variety of situations. Moreover, last October in the Corporate Communication Group, the company established a Corporate Citizenship Office whose role is to coordinate activities that make a significant contribution to society. The award from the Asahi Shimbun is in recognition of all the contributions made by the NYK Group.
Other winners of the award this year include Asahi-Shuzo Sake Brewing Co., Ltd., headquartered in the city of Nagaoka in Niigata prefecture; the American Family Life Assurance Company of Columbus, whose Japan operations are based in Tokyo; and Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd., which has its head office in Tokyo.
NYK is proud to receive this recognition and ensures to further commit itself to acting as a good corporate citizen and participating in activities that will help the company exist in harmony with the global community.
