NYK's Logistics Subsidiary Gets Formal Go Ahead from the Government of South Africa
August 15, 2005
On April 15, 2005, NYK established NYK Logistics & BLL (NBL) of South Africa as a joint venture with BLG Lead Logistics of South Africa, a local logistics firm.
Recently, the joint venture received formal approval from the South African government upon completion of registration procedures for the formation of a joint venture. This marks the first time that NYK has set up its own logistics foothold on the African continent.
In October 2003, NYK was designated by the Ford Motor Company of the United States as a lead logistics provider (LLP) for the U.S. automaker's international procurement of automobile parts, centering on Asia. In South Africa, which forms part of this procurement network, NYK has provided service since that time through the company's partner, BLG Lead Logistics, in the run-up to the establishment of a joint venture with the African firm.
Through the newly formed joint venture, NYK will provide logistics services not only for the delivery of auto parts to Ford Motor's plant in South Africa but also for the export of auto parts from suppliers in South Africa to Ford Motor's plants in other countries.
NYK intends to vigorously push ahead with the development of its logistics business in South Africa as well as the expansion of the company's global logistics service network with a view to fully meeting the increasingly diversified logistics needs of all customers.
