NYK Affiliate to Install Two Gantry Cranes at Laem Chabang Port in Thailand
August 10, 2005
TIPS, an NYK affiliate, will be installing two new gantry cranes at Laem Chabang, one of the main ports located near Bangkok in Thailand. TIPS is currently managing the container terminal at this port.
Since opening in 1991, TIPS has been operating three gantry cranes corresponding to the width of 13 lanes. However, in order to better manage the considerable increase in large containerships over recent years, TIPS has ordered two new gantry cranes from China's ZPMC Co., Ltd. These new gantry cranes are larger than the existing lifting apparatus and are scheduled to enter into operation in July 2006.
Installation of the new gantry cranes will enable the terminal to handle larger containerships corresponding to the width of 17 lanes in addition to reducing handling times thanks to the increased container handling capacity of the new cranes as NYK strives to provide quality service at this port through more efficient operations.
* After delivery of the new gantry cranes, one of the existing cranes will be sold and subsequent operations will be serviced by a total of four cranes.
