NYK Expands North Europe - Mediterranean Service

April 28, 2005

NYK today announced that its first container service from North Europe to the Eastern Mediterranean will commence in July by joining the Hapag-Lloyd's EEX service.

This service will call Hamburg, Thamesport, Antwerp, Lisbon, (ITALIAN PORT), Istanbul, Thessaloniki, Izmir, (ITALIAN PORT), Lisbon and back to Hamburg, each voyage taking 28 days. It is planned to use four 1,200 TEU ships to cover this service. NYK will be supplying two vessels, with the other two being provided by Hapag-Lloyd on a slot sharing basis.

NYK Line (Europe), Deputy Managing Director, Tom Boardley commented: "The launch of this joint service further reinforces our strategy to offer a wider network of services in Europe. With our customers' trade in the Eastern Mediterranean growing strongly, we are responding by expanding our liner capabilities there. We hope that, with NYK Line now offering this major intra Europe service, we can enjoy the support of our valued customers in the region."

NYK plans to bring the same standards of customer service to this new route that are so highly regarded by its customers on its major transcontinental operations.

Further details of the service will be announced later.
