Completion of Bulk Coal Carrier "JP AZURE" for Electric Power Development Co., Ltd.
March 16, 2005
Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) announced that the naming ceremony of the 88,000-DWT bulk carrier "JP AZURE" to be put into service for Electric Power Development Co., Ltd. was held at Marugame Headquarters (Kagawa Prefecture) of Imabari Shipbuilder Co. Ltd. on March 16.
Built with a double hull structure for safety, this coal carrier will be used to transport steam coal to the Electric Power Development Co., Ltd., power plants of Takehara (Hiroshima Prefecture), Bay of Tachibana (Tokushima Prefecture), Matsushima (Nagasaki Prefecture), Matsuura (Nagasaki Prefecture) and Ishikawa (Okinawa Prefecture).
The naming ceremony was held in the presence of Mr. Yoshihiko Nakagaki, President of Electric Power Development and his wife as well as Mr. Koji Miyahara, President of Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK), and his wife and many related persons.
As the vessel "JP AZURE" is the first coal carrier to be completed since Electric Power Development was privatized in October 2004, the name was created by adding the Italian word for blue "AZURE" to the simplified public name of the company "JP" adopted after its privatization. This word was derived from the blue Tower Boiler of the Isogo Thermal Power Plant located in Yokohama.
