New Services for Asia-Mexico-Western Latin American Coast Route Asia Latin America Express Service (ALEX) and NEW Margarita Express Service (MAREX)

December 27, 2004

Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK), providing the Asia Andes Express Service (ANDEX) for the Asia - Latin America route as a consortium in cooperation with Compania Sud Americana de Vapores SA (CSAV) (Head Office: Valparaiso, Chile) since 1995, will commence its independent service for the Asia - Mexico - Western Latin American Coast route, finally titled "Asia Latin Express Service (ALEX)". Specific services are outlined below.

  1. Service that has been provided through the consortium of NYK and CSAV will change to an independent service provided by NYK.
  2. Commencement of service
    - Eastbound: January 26, 2005, beginning with the "IKOMA" (1101) incoming to Busan, South Korea (scheduled)
    - Westbound: February 24, 2005, beginning with the "AQUITANIA" incoming to San Antonio, Chile (scheduled)
  3. A total of 10 incoming vessels, including four 2200TEU vessels, currently in service, and six 1600 TEU vessels, for the 70-day round trip, weekly fixed day service.
  4. Ports of call after the change are as follows:
    Tokyo - Busan - Shanghai - Keelung - Hong Kong - Nagoya - Manzanillo (Mexico) - Balboa - Buenaventura - Guayaquil - Callao - Iquique - San Antonio - Callao - Balboa - Manzanillo (Mexico) - Tokyo

Since the final Asian port for the new service is Nagoya, the transit time from Japan to Mexico and other ports in Latin America will shorten. Additionally, the service offers weekly port calls at Buenaventura, Colombia and Guayaquil, Ecuador. In response to the demand in homeward refrigerated cargos, the Company will change the home port of call from Yokohama to Tokyo, where demand is higher than Yokohama. The Company believes that this move will accommodate cargo owners' diverse needs in a stable fashion.

The NEW Margarita Express Service (MAREX) for Central America and Hawaii will consolidate ports of call to Hawaii, Mexico and Central America (up to Costa Rica). New services will be provided at the following ports of call from late January 2005.

  1. Ports of call
    Yokohama - Ningbo - Hong Kong - Keelung - Busan - Kobe - Yokohama - Honolulu - Long Beach - Manzanillo - Puerto Quetzal - Acajutra - Corinto - Puerto Caldera - Puerto Quetzal - Manzanillo - Long Beach - Honolulu - Yokohama
