New Logistics Warehouse Management System "WM for Windows" Introduced in China

August 19, 2004

NYK has recently adopted and started to operate at its Shanghai, China, logistics hub "WM for Windows," a state-of-the-art logistics warehouse management system of Manhattan Associates, Inc., a noted SCM (Supply Chain Management) solution provider (head office: Georgia, U.S., Japanese branch: Minato-ku, Tokyo, president: Arnold Consengco).

NYK has been vigorously expanding its logistics service network throughout the world. The recent introduction of "WM for Windows" is designed to enhance the efficiency of warehouse management especially in China whose logistics market is growing with phenomenal rapidity, in order to reinforce the competitiveness of NYK's logistics service in that country and ensure its positive differentiation from other logistics operators.

Thus far, each of NYK's logistics footholds in China has used a different warehouse management system. However, the newly-introduced "WM for Windows" will establish an integrated warehouse management system that will make it possible to provide an even higher-grade logistics service of equal quality throughout China, and thereby expeditiously respond to the diversified needs of our customers. Following are the benefits expected of the new system:

  1. The unified system format will enable a much better one-glance grasp of all relevant information and the sharing of cargo data among different logistics footholds. This will make it possible to quickly meet customers' various wishes, such as increasing/decreasing cargo dispatches and volumes, and changing commodities handled.
  2. Integrated management throughout China will become possible regarding such matters as cargo lots, commodity categories and storage numbers, thereby contributing a great deal to further improving the accuracy of cargo tracking.
  3. The new system, capable of reading RFID (radio frequency identification - that is, IC tags), will make it possible to incorporate logistics information that is bound to increase markedly (such as delivery time change and in-transit destination change) in parallel with the further development of the ever-changing RFID technology. As such, it will enable NYK to provide a much broader range of logistics services.

"WM for Windows," recently introduced at NYK's Shanghai logistics center, will henceforth be extended to other logistics hubs at Wuxi and Suzhou, and then to Guangzhou and all other parts of China so that all our customers can benefit by the integration of warehouse management systems.
