NYK Logistics (Japan) Established

NYK Logistics (Japan) Co., Ltd. was established by NYK on April 30 this year mainly to engage in through transport logistics attuned to NYK's overseas logistics network and third party logistics (3PL) in Japan. After preparations made since that time, the new firm will formally start business on August 1.

In July 2001, a business department was set up within NYK's Japan Logistics Team to serve as a unified business window for relevant NYK-affiliated companies in Japan, which separately engage in logistics business. NYK Logistics (Japan) has been formed by spinning off this department as an independent company. The purpose is to better account for revenues/expenditures and business targets, and set up an even stronger business system in Japan now that the number of business contracts has increased smoothly during three years since the establishment of the business department.

In partnership with relevant logistics firms under NYK's wing in about 30 countries, including Asia, China, Europe and the U.S., NYK Logistics (Japan) will provide a through transport service especially for the import of consumer goods, such as articles for daily use and foods, and at the same time, propose service plans to reduce inventory cost and lead time by combining various logistics elements, such as warehouses abroad and "buyer's consolidation" (consolidation service for large-scale consignees).

Moreover, NYK Logistics (Japan) will positively develop services better tailored to customers' needs as a provider of a domestic logistics network for trade between Japan and China, which promises to expand further in the years ahead.

NYK, as a comprehensive logistics operator, has been integrating the activities of its logistics-related affiliates throughout the world under the name of NYK Logistics plus regional name. This work has been all but completed with the establishment of NYK Logistics (Japan), thereby giving birth to an even more efficient and effective logistics network around the globe.

Henceforth, by taking advantage of this network, NYK Logistics (Japan) will develop its domestic logistics service to better respond to customers' increasingly sophisticated needs of through transport logistics.
