On April 29, 2004, NYK Line was presented with Ford Motor Company's "World Excellence Award" for Environmental Leadership. Ford's Corporate Citizenship Award for Environmental Leadership recognizes a supplier's demonstrated environmental achievement and innovation. More than 150 various vendors attended the Awards ceremony at the Dearborn Inn with 42 suppliers receiving awards in several categories. NYK was acknowledged for demonstrating environmental leadership and for its continual improvement in the area of global ecological safety and concern.

Under the leadership of Chairman and CEO, Bill Ford, Ford Motor Company has placed tremendous emphasis on environmental stewardship. "I believe the distinction between a good company and a great company is this - - a good company provides quality products and services; a great one provides quality products and services and strives to make the world a better place," said Mr. Ford. NYK Line shares that commitment.

NYK was the only Logistics supplier to achieve this special environmental recognition by Ford. The company has a long history of implementing high safety standards - NYK's proprietary NAV9000 system for safe operation and environmental protection has been applied to not only NYK owned vessels but also to chartered ones since 1998, and will continue to be used and improved in the future. NYK was also the world's first maritime transportation group to obtain ISO 14001 certification covering all marine transportation services for its fleet of more than 500 ships including chartered ones.

"For achieving the highest level of performance, we gratefully recognize NYK Line for its exceptional contributions and efforts," said Tony Brown, Ford vice president, Global Purchasing.

Congratulations are in order to all of those at NYK who contributed with tremendous hard work, time and effort to turn management's early environmental vision into reality.
